Reading Room

In our second grade classroom, the students are learning through differentiated instruction through guided reading and whole group instruction through weekly group stories and skills. Every student has individual skills that we work on in reading groups and the students are constantly being reassessed based on their needs as they grow as readers.

We use Scott Foresman Reading Street reading and language arts as our primary curriculum in grades K-5th. The curriculum provides second grade with an array of leveled readers, whole group stories, big books, and activity pages to help them master every reading objective covered.

I believe that the bast way to advance kids as readers is to have them read, read, read. We spend a lot of time exploring books from our classroom library, the public library next door, and even books that our fellow second graders have "published" and placed into our second grade author's library.
